AN AFTERNOON WITH HILARY KNIGHT

ILLUSTRATOR OF ELOISE

The Plaza's most rambunctious resident and her illustrator are coming home to The Plaza! The Plaza Retail Collection is proud to welcome Mr. Hilary Knight, the artist behind Kay Thompson's Eloise, who will be offering a special artist demonstration for children on:

Saturday, November 22nd
1:30-3:30 PM

Please join us for this once in a lifetime opportunity to meet world-renowned children’s book illustrator, Hilary Knight, who will lead a demonstration on the art of illustration, as well as sign copies of the original Eloise books at:

The Plaza Retail Collection located at One West 58th Street

The beloved character of Eloise first appeared in 1955 and has rarely been out of print since. Space is limited to see Mr. Knight demonstrate the way he poses Eloise’s figure, creates her expressions, and explores her gestures. Participants will have the opportunity to re-create Knight’s illustrations to create their own whimsical storybook character. Materials are included and parents are welcome to observe.

"I am Eloise.  I am six.  I am a city child.  I live at the Plaza."

Thus begins our introduction to Eloise.  Born circa 1949 and introduced to us in 1955, Eloise's adventures have come to life in a series of four books.  We learn all about Eloise, Nanny, her "rawther" British nanny, her dog Weenie who looks like a cat, and her turtle Skipperdee who eats raisins and wears sneakers. An international traveler, Eloise has been to Paris and Moscow too!

Eloise endlessly roams the landmark hotel in search of adventure. She attends weddings, invited or not. She spies on debutantes as they dance in the Terrace Room. The morning routine includes helping the maid change the sheets, even if she doesn't ask for help.

This is her website containing everything about her, information on the books, her author Kay Thompson, her illustrator Hilary Knight and much more!
